PHYSICS DEPARTMENT UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

The Department accepts students into its regular education program through several channels: candidates who achieve sufficient scores in the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and subsequently make preferences, foreign students who make preferences, vertical transfer, intra-institutional transfer, inter-institutional transfer, and lateral transfer with central placement scores. On average, 25 students are admitted annually to the Department's regular education program through the ÖSYM exams. Additionally, students from partner universities under protocol agreements are admitted for specific periods and temporarily within the scope of Farabi, Mevlana, and Erasmus exchange programs to study in our Department.

The undergraduate program of the Physics Department is conducted in the regular education format.

The standard duration of education for the Department’s undergraduate program is eight semesters, while the maximum duration is fourteen.

The medium of instruction for the undergraduate program is 100% English. Newly enrolled students are required to undertake the compulsory English preparatory program provided by the university's School of Foreign Languages. The standard duration of the preparatory program is two semesters, with a maximum duration of four. Students exceeding the maximum duration are not admitted to the program and are transferred by ÖSYM to a similar program with 100% Turkish as the medium of instruction. Students who complete the preparatory program within the specified period begin their undergraduate studies as first-semester students.

Students meeting the requirements within the Farabi, Mevlana, and Erasmus exchange programs can study for specific periods at partner universities within the country and abroad.

To qualify for graduation, students must meet certain requirements, including completing a minimum workload of 30 ECTS credits in each semester of the curriculum (the total ECTS credit load for the first semester is 32 in programs containing the Career Planning course) and reaching a total of 240/242 ECTS credits over eight semesters. Additionally, students must have no failing/incomplete/unsatisfactory grades and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (ECTS) of 2.00.

Graduates of the Department’s regular program are awarded a "Bachelor’s Degree in Physics." Students who complete the required courses and fulfill graduation requirements may graduate in a shorter period. No specific title is conferred upon graduates.

Students who enrolled in the Department in 2019 or later follow the “2019 Bologna ECTS-Compatible Physics Curriculum.” For students subject to this curriculum, the maximum credit limit for course registration is determined by the ECTS value of the course, and grade point averages (Semester GPA – Cumulative GPA) are calculated based on the ECTS weight of the courses.
